About Greennx 2008 Green Building Conference 

Theme of the Greennx 2008 Conference is The Next Green Leap . This conference provides opportunity for leaders and professionals in all sectors of the green building industry to meet and share their vision of The Next Green Leap in the building industry.

Share your Vision for The Next Green Leap          Make a Difference ! 

Conference participants are encouraged to submit their vision statement or paper on The Next Green Leap for the building industry to share their vision on the future of the green building industry to TheNextGreenLeap@greennx.com .

Selected vision statements will have the opportunity to be presented at The Next Green Leap closing forum session of the conference.

Conference Sessions include:

Sustainable Cities - Challenges and Opportunities:

  • Phil Christie, TransLink's Vice President of Real Estate Division will give an overview of the opportunities for real estate development along TranLink's mass transit railway which will provide great potential for growth in the region resulting in sustainable city development supported by mass public transportation.
  • Brent Toderian, City of Vancouver's Director of City Planning will speak about the sustainable initiatives and policies in Vancouver such as EcoDensity which will set new directions for sustainable building development in Vancouver.

Sustainable Developments, Design and Technology:

  • Andrew Pearson, founder of Aviawest, developer for the Parkside project in Victoria targeting for LEED Platinum certification will speak on developer's perspective for sustainable developments.
  • Marty Donkervoort, General Manager of Inner City Development Inc. from Winnipeg will speak about his successful experience as a builder and social entrepreneur in sustainable building projects.
  • James Cheng, award-winning Vancouver architect and principal of James K.M. Cheng Architects Inc. who is renowned for his high rise residential building projects in Canada, USA and other parts of the world will speak on sustainable design for high-rise residential developments.
  • Peitsa Hirvonen, founder of SESCO Electrical Inc., US Green Wiring expert, past chair of Green Building Committee of local chapter of National Association of Remodeling Industry will speak on Green Wiring and Healthy Building, a deep green aspect beyond existing LEED certification requirements. 
  • Gerry Epp, partner of Fast + Epp and an award-winning design-builder will speak on his company's sustainable design-build structural projects including the 2010 Winter Olympics Richmond Oval Roof Structure as well as sustainable use of wood that would otherwise be considered as waste such as the pine beetle infected wood.
  • Dr. Guido Wimmers of Equilibrium Consulting, architect formerly with melis+melis+wimmers who has designed and built net-zero energy buildings in Austria, Germany and Italy will speak on the Passive House, the State of the Art European standard for net-zero energy buildings.
  • Maureen Connelly, Research Program Head, Centre for the Advancement of Green Roof Technology, School of Construction and the Environment, British Columbia Institute of Technology will speak on Green Roof and Green Walls.

The Next Green Leap: 

This will be a forum session which provides opportunity for discussion and presentation of visions for The Next Green Leap forward for sustainable building development.
